National Pollutant Release Inventory:

ORTECH staff have a thorough knowledge of NPRI reporting requirements, and can ensure that your facility is taking advantage of all possible exemptions and can develop user friendly templates to make your reporting as streamlined as possible.  ORTECH also has experience in working with the SWIM website and can walk your company through the often frustrating process of submitting reports to Environment Canada online.

Toxic Reduction Act:

On December 31, 2021, the Toxics Reduction Act, 2009 will be repealed and its associated regulations revoked , ending the Toxics Reduction Program. Until this time, facilities must continue to meet the requirements of the Toxics Reduction Act, 2009 and its associated regulations.

As a result of regulatory changes, facilities no longer need to prepare new toxic substance reduction plans or review their existing plans. Facilities with existing plans are still required to report annually on substances that meet thresholds.  (https://www.ontario.ca/page/toxics-reduction-program).

Part of the rational for repealing the Toxic Reduction Act is to eliminate duplication and overlap with the federal government’s Chemicals Management Plan program under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act 1999.  The Chemicals Management Plan (CMP) is a Government of Canada initiative aimed at reducing the risks posed by chemicals to Canadians and their environment. When fully implemented, the CMP will have evaluated 4300 chemicals identified as priorities during the phased in process.
