Air and Water Quality Monitoring Specialist: Sarnia

ORTECH is looking for a qualified individual interested and ready for a rewarding challenge to enhance its leading Air and Water Quality monitoring team based out of our Sarnia, Ontario office.  This full-time position requires a flexible team player with good communication and troubleshooting skills who enjoys the challenges of collection and interpretation of environmental data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine maintenance, calibration and repair of various air and water quality monitoring instruments
  • Trouble shoot monitoring equipment located predominantly at industrial sites in the Sarnia-Lambton area
  • Support, plan and coordinate technical aspects of client projects
  • Communicate (written and oral) with clients (union and non-union environments), regulatory agencies, public and other stakeholders
  • Facilitate the acquisition of data ensuring quality procedures are followed
  • Manage data / information and track issues
  • Support / write technical reports to present the methodology, results and recommendations
  • Work to strict schedules and project milestones while maintaining product quality
  • Follow ORTECH and client specific safety protocols

Qualifications

  • College education in environmental technology and/or chemistry or post-secondary education in science or engineering (e.g. environmental, chemistry, meteorology)
  • Instrumentation and data acquisition system experience 
  • A working knowledge of electronics
  • Strong aptitude for problem solving and proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Attention to detail that will ensure a high degree of quality assurance and quality control
  •  Knowledge of industrial and manufacturing processes, emission inventories, dispersion modeling, laboratory analysis techniques also an asset
  • Excellent computer and analytical skills (knowledge of MS Office Suite mandatory, knowledge in data management, database tools an asset)
  • Understanding of provincial (Ontario) and federal air regulatory framework an asset
  • A valid driver’s license with good driving record is required as this position will require some, mostly local, travel
